Barracks of the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment | On the property of a former inn, in whose buildings barracks for the 3rd Squadron of the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment had been set up in 1821, a new barracks was built from 1834–1836 under the supervision of Wilhelm Kreyher, based on the design of the senior building councilor Johann Georg Carl Hampel. The main building, the residential barracks on Luisenplatz, originally covered with a hipped roof, was redesigned in 1847. According to the specifications of Frederick William IV. Made Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse designs, presumably on the planning of Friedrich August Stüler based. The residential barracks received a flat roof and the cantilevered cornice was replaced by a crenellated wreath. In 1836 the 3rd Squadron of the 1st Guard Uhlan Regiment moved into the new buildings. From 1889 to 1893 the barracks housed the 3rd Squadron of the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps and from 1894-1919 the Leib-Gendarmerie . Then the barracks became the property of the Potsdam magistrate, who housed the tax office in it. The main building that has been preserved has been used by a financial institute since 1945. |
