Coat of arms of the city of Saarbrücken

The city of Saarbrücken and the former cities and communities that are now part of Saarbrücken have granted the following people honorary citizenship. Honorary citizenship is the highest distinction a municipality can bestow. It is awarded to people who have made a special contribution to the community. This honorary citizenship ends with death. Separate from this is another and very special appreciation of the state capital Saarbrücken, the "honorary citizenship posthumously". With it, the state capital honors outstanding personalities with a connection to Saarbrücken who, like Willy Graf and Max Braun, fought the Nazi dictatorship with their lives and only received this honor after their death.

As is customary in other cities, the city council decided on April 3, 2001, that various members of the government and politicians of National Socialism were removed from the list of honorary citizens.

Note: The listing is done chronologically according to the date of award.
