Eduard Franz Adt (born July 28, 1850 in Ensheim , † July 23, 1919 in Saarbrücken ) was a manufacturer , mayor and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

The family had lived in what is now the border area between France and Germany for generations. Members of the family owned mills on the Blies in Frauenberg and Rubenheim .

Adt attended the Latin School organized Institute of Superintendent Dr. Schmidt in Oberstein and then from 1864 to 1866 the École professional de Mulhouse . He graduated from the Royal provincial school in Saarbrücken and studied at the Royal Commercial Academy in Berlin , the Mechanical Engineering Department . Adt received commercial training in his parents' business and in England.

In 1870, after the death of his father Franz Adt (* April 7, 1822 - July 21, 1870), he became a partner in the Adt Brothers company (manufacture of snuff boxes and paper - lacquerware ). He was involved in founding a pension fund , the Adtschen Sparkasse and a company hospital . In 1901 the company was converted into Adt AG.

On March 15, 1877, he married the Lauterin Maria Jörg in her hometown, who died in June 1880, 10 days after the birth of her second child. He is said to have been the owner of the first private automobile in the German Empire.

Between 1880 and 1905 he was mayor of Ensheim with short interruptions. During this time, both the drinking water and the sewage network were installed in the village. He was also a committee member of the St. Ingbert district council , a member of the administrative board of the Palatinate Trade Museum and the committee for trade and commerce, and a board member of the paper processing trade association.

From 1890 to 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency Pfalz 4 ( Zweibrücken , Pirmasens ) and the National Liberal Party .

On July 8, 1910, he was made an honorary citizen of Ensheim.

He also carried the titles of Kommerzienrat and Geheimer Kommerzienrat (privy councilor).
