Louis linen weaver

Louis Leinenweber (born April 14, 1850 in Pirmasens ; † October 30, 1914 there ) was a leather manufacturer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Leinweber attended the Progymnasium in Pirmasens and from 1864 to 1866 the Garnier Institute in Friedrichsdorf near Homburg vd Höhe . In 1866 he learned to make leather and in 1870 took over his leather factory in Pirmasens. 1868-69 he was a one-year volunteer in the 5th Bavarian Chevauleger Regiment, in 1870/71 he participated as a reserve lieutenant in this regiment in all battles of the 2nd Bavarian Army Corps in the Franco-German War , about which he published a book in 1911. In 1878 he became the commander of the Pirmasens fire brigade and in 1902 he made the building site available for a new Protestant orphanage. From 1879 he was a city councilor for many years and from 1884 also second mayor in Pirmasens, and from 1894 to 1899 he was also a member of the Bavarian state parliament . From 1898 to 1907 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency Pfalz 4 ( Zweibrücken , Pirmasens ) and the National Liberal Party .

In the house of the Diakonie Pirmasens, the former Protestant orphanage, there is now a Louis linen weaver hall. In addition, the Leinenweberstraße in the Winzler district is named after him, which leads south from the former orphanage.
