The list of principalities of the Kievan Rus shows partial principalities that were established in the Kievan Rus area up to 1239 .

Around 862 the Varangian Rurik became prince of Novgorod . His brothers ruled Izborsk and Beloosero . Oleg extended the territory to Kiev . Under the succeeding princes, the territory of the Rus was expanded further east and west. In the following centuries it increasingly disintegrated into numerous small sub-principalities. In 1237–1240, the invasion of the Golden Horde ended the independence of the Rus. Many principalities remained.
