Principality of Turov
The Principality of Turow (Russian Туровское княжество ) was a principality in the Kievan Rus and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the 10th to the 16th centuries in what is now Belarus and Ukraine . The center was Turow Castle .
In the 11th and 12th centuries Turow was ruled repeatedly from the Grand Duchy of Kiev , in the 11th century there was a joint rule with the Principality of Volhynia (1078-1087).
In the 12th century separate principalities emerged in Klezk , Sluzk , Dubrowiza and Pinsk .

Turow Castle was first mentioned in the Nestor Chronicle for 980 . Probably soon afterwards, Vladimir I founded the Principality of Turov and handed it over to his son Svyatopolk . Around 1048 there was Yaroslav the Wise of Kiev to his son Isjaslav . In 1078 Jaropolk , younger son of Isjaslav , became Prince of Volhynia and Turow. After his death, his brother Svyatopolk Turow, in 1093 also Kiev.
At least since 1127 Turow was under the rule of the sons of Vladimir Monomakh . In 1227 a separate principality of Klezk was mentioned, in 1148 a principality of Sluzk (until 1164).
In 1162 Turow was finally independent from Kiev. From 1166 there was a principality of Dubrovitsa (until 1223), in 1174 the principality of Pinsk was permanently separated.
In the first half of the 13th century, the Prince of beleaguered Halych-Volhynia and the Grand Dukes of Lithuania , the Principality Turow . In 1223 Turow took part in the Battle of the Kalka .
Around 1320 the Principality of Turow became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania .
