Explanation of old field names

Here, above all, the field names are dealt with, which are not immediately explained by the wording itself (e.g. Büschchchäferei or Farmer's corner are explained by the word). The most likely interpretation is given from the essay by C. Nicolaus, for some names there are further explanations there and in the other sources.

  • Dernauken , modified to Tarnauken, contains the Old Sorbian dren = cornel cherry.
  • Dieb (e) swinkel comes from a band of robbers who had their refuge there.
  • Guteborner Lehden comes from Sorbian lehde = fallow land, lado = desert
  • In Jieser , Jehser or Jeser , this is probably derived from the Sorbian jasen = ash.
  • Im Preschken , im Perschken (or Parschen) comes from the Sorbian breza = birch
  • In the Raackschen comes from the Sorbian rak = cancer (before industrialization and Elster dike, the Elster arms were rich in fish and crabs).
  • Kaupe comes from the Sorbian kupa = island.
  • Koltschen (or Collschen) is derived from Sorbian colc = beehive.
  • Lachensläukchen (also Lachmunds Läukchen ) comes from the name Lachmund and Läukchen = swamp (see below)
  • Läukchen comes from Sorbian luh, Lower Sorbian lug = swamp; also occurs in Schweineläukchen and other compounds
  • Single pieces come from the Sorbian lado = desert, lehde = fallow land
  • Jenstech , Jensteig is transformed from "Gänse-" (or Gänscher = Gänserich) and Steg, Steig in Jenschstech, Jenschsteg and Jenssteig. A field name register names a “goose pond” and a “goose trail ”, and a summer stable is at the end of the path
  • Schrotschack is probably transformed from Sorbian srjzdza = in the middle
  • Ulaner meadows and forest belonged to a deserted soldier Koar, who was called "Ulaner".
