windmill
windmill (Map) 1922 Forming a landscape, of significance in terms of the history of technology.

Wind turbine, built in 1922 in an open field not far from the village of Leuterwitz. The wind turbine, which was no longer completely complete, was used to generate partial electricity for agricultural purposes. In Saxony, only seven comparable wind turbines from this early period of generating electrical energy using wind power are listed as historical monuments. The principle is of course based on that of the windmills. Shortly before 1900, Denmark started using wind power to generate electricity. The main aim was to improve the economic conditions in rural areas. The few early examples of electricity generation using wind power in Saxony were also exclusively set up in rural areas. As in Leuterwitz, the wind turbines are attached to an iron lattice mast. These are small systems that were modeled on the western mills that emerged around 1900 , but were much less effective. It can be assumed that it was not a question of one-off production, but of industrially manufactured small systems. Some of the wind turbines still to be found in Saxony apparently served to supply water to the farm. Due to their rarity, the last surviving wind turbines in Saxony from the first third of the 20th century are of great importance in terms of technology history. LFD / 2011.
