List of paprika and chilli varieties
Here the names of cultivated and wild forms of the genus Capsicum (chillies, peppers, etc.) are listed, subdivided according to their species. The Latin-scientific species names are today partly misleading and were once based on assumptions that are now often refuted; The species C. chinense does not originate from China, nor are all varieties that are assigned to the species C. annuum annual or the fruits of the varieties belonging to the species C. baccatum are "berry-shaped" (in the common sense; the fruit of the paprika Plant is botanically a berry ).
Species with cultivated forms
In addition to known wild forms, the species listed here have a large number of varieties that have arisen as the result of human breeding. The existence and determination of the wild forms of these species is partly controversial.
Capsicum annuum
Capsicum annuum is the most common type of paprika, which also has the most cultivated varieties. The variety ranges from mild sweet peppers to hot peppers, from chiltepins barely the size of a pea to 25 cm long fruits. The shape and color of the fruit are just as varied.
