List of regiments of the Upper Rhine Reichskreis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Upper Rhine Imperial Circle consisted of Hessen-Darmstadt , Hessen-Kassel and a number of clerical principalities ( Princes of Basel , Hochstift Fulda , Hochstift Speyer , Hochstift Worms , Hochstift Strasbourg ), but also numerous free imperial cities (e.g. Frankfurt am Main ) and numerous smaller territories were part of the circle. The district troops were partly provided from territories outside the district ( Kurpfalz and Westerwald ). At the end of the 17th century, Hessen-Kassel gradually left the circle armature . In the 18th century, Hessen-Darmstadt bore the brunt of the district troops , while Hessen-Kassel even fought against the imperial troops on the Prussian side . The last contingent of Hessen-Kassel was drawn up for the War of the Polish Succession .
