List of the boroughs and districts of Mannheim
The urban area of Mannheim is divided into six inner and eleven outer city districts according to § 22 of the main statute of the city of Mannheim . In each of the 17 city districts there is a district advisory council, which consists of 12 citizens living in the city district, who are appointed by the local council according to the results of the local council election. They are to be heard on important matters that affect the respective city district and advise the local administration and committees of the municipal council.
The 17 city districts were divided into 24 city districts or 78 statistical districts in 2019.
A new subdivision structure has been in force since January 1, 2020. The starting point for this new subdivision was the effort to take up terms used in the language of the population (Jungbusch, Wohlhotels, Herzogenried, Waldhof-Ost) and to improve administrative actions for Mannheim's districts as life-world units (so-called “social spaces”). Mannheim now has 38 districts.
