List of statistical regions in North Macedonia
The statistical regions ( Macedonian Статистички Региони Statistički Regioni ; Albanian Rajonet Statistike ) are the highest level of the administrative division of North Macedonia . Since August 2004 the state is now divided into 8 regions and initially 84, since 2013 80 municipalities (opštini) .
Regions in North Macedonia do not perform any administrative tasks, but are only there for purely statistical purposes: They represent the EU-compliant NUTS 3 level of North Macedonia, which was provisionally drawn up as part of the candidate country for membership (see NUTS: MK ). In some cases, however, they form historical regions that are and were economically and culturally linked.
