List of variable stars

This list of variable stars contains only a selection of these stars (namely those that are also at least brighter than 5  mag , have a period of maximum 30 days, and have a brightness difference of at least 0.5 mag or were known in 1844) .

In 2008, 41,638 variable stars were known (see General Catalog of Variable Stars ), and the number is increasing regularly.
