LittleBigPlanet , often with LBP abbreviated, is a Jump 'n' Run - video game with puzzle elements for the PlayStation 3 , the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita . It was developed by the British company Media Molecule and published worldwide by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2008. On January 21, 2011, a successor was released with LittleBigPlanet 2 and on September 21, 2012 LittleBigPlanet Vita was released. On November 26, 2014, the "LittleBigPlanet-2" successor LittleBigPlanet 3 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 was released in Europe .

Gameplay

In the game, the player controls small avatars , so-called "sack boys" or "sack girls", which he can decorate with numerous costume variants. The game contains a total of more than 50 levels, which are divided into several puzzle episodes. Skill and ingenuity are required to get to the end of the obstacles. The special attraction compared to conventional jump 'n' runs is the targeted use of physical processes that are simulated realistically by the game's physics engine .

There is also the option of designing new levels , objects, buildings, shapes and entire scenarios yourself and then making them available to the rest of the community . This online area offers a very large, constantly growing number of levels that can be mastered online with up to four other players. In addition, the game is constantly being expanded with additional level packs, costumes and downloadable content, which can be purchased in the PlayStation Store .

The release of the game was postponed for a long time because Sony wanted to prevent problems with the soundtrack. The title Tapha Niang , which was published on the album Boulevard de l'Independance by artist Toumani Diabaté , was part of the game and contained several controversial Koran quotes, such as "Everything that is on earth will perish". To prevent negative reactions, Sony decided to remove the piece and reissue the game. The game sold a total of 5.4 million times worldwide (as of February 22, 2014).

The German voiceover is spoken by Gordon Piedesack .

successor

A version for the PlayStation Portable was released in 2009 and a version for the PS Vita in 2012 .

LittleBigPlanet 2

On May 10, 2010, the successor LittleBigPlanet 2 was officially announced. This was released on January 21, 2011 for Playstation 3. In this game, the player again takes control of a sack boy, who can be costumed in many ways. In addition to a new story mode and new stickers, costumes and decorations, some new power-ups have been introduced, such as the power gloves, which allow objects to be lifted, or the grappling hook. In construction mode, it was also possible to incorporate other types of games than just platformer. There are many tools available that make it easier to create different types of mini-games.

LittleBigPlanet 3

At E3 2014, Sony officially announced the successor LittleBigPlanet 3 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Sumo Digital took over the development instead of Media Molecule , but they accompanied the new development team during the development. One of the innovations is that in addition to Sackboy, the player can now also take on 3 other characters, each with their own skills. The bird can fly swoop, the four-legged oddsock can run up walls and the male toggle can change his size.

Offshoot

In addition to the official successors, a number of spin-offs appeared, some of which support a different game system. Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves is a PlayStation Move . It includes 10 prehistoric levels that must be played at least in pairs, with one player using the PS Move controller. LittleBigPlanet Karting, on the other hand, is a classic karting game in which races are played against each other. In addition, players can create their own racetracks and share them with other players.
