The Little River (English for "small river") is a 38 km long tributary of the St. Lawrence Gulf in the Canadian province of New Brunswick .
River course
The Little River runs in western Gloucester County . The headwaters are located southeast of Little River Lake , 30 km west-southwest of the city of Bathurst . The Little River flows in a predominantly west-southwest direction. The Middle River runs north . In the last few kilometers, the Little River gradually turns north-northeast. The Nepisiguit River flows 3 km further east from the lower reaches of the Little River. This finally flows into Bathurst Harbor , directly opposite the mouth of the Middle River.
A zinc-lead mine, closed in 2013 and previously operated by Xstrata , is located within the Little River catchment area .
Hydrology
The Little River drains an area of about 130 km². The mean discharge 6 km above the mouth is 2.63 m³ / s. In April and May the river has the highest monthly discharge, averages 6.04 and 12.1 m³ / s.
