Liuwe Tamminga (born September 25, 1953 in Hemelum ) is a Dutch organist.

Tamminge studied harpsichord and organ with Wim von Beek and composition with Willem Frederik Bon at the municipal conservatory in Groningen . In 1977 he passed the exam as an organ soloist with distinction. From 1978 to 1982 he continued his training in Paris with Jean Langlais and André Isoir .

In 1980 he received first prize at the National Improvisation Competition in Boslsert and in 1981 the Prix ​​d'Excellence in the organ category . During this time he gave regular concerts in the church of St Germain-des-Prés in Paris. He also attended master classes by Olivier Messiaen , André Marchal , Marie-Claire Alain , Ewald Kooiman , Louis Toebosch , Hans Haselböck , Michel Chapuis , Montserrat Torrent , Guy Bovet , Gustav Leonhardt and Xavier Darasse .

Tamminga has lived in Bologna since 1982, where he studied the early Italian organ repertoire with Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , with whom he is organist on the restored organs of Lorenzo da Prato and Baldassarre Malamini at the Basilica of San Petronio . He is considered a specialist in Italian organ music of the 16th and 18th centuries.

With Tagliavini he recorded two CDs with works by old Italian and Flemish masters and works by Giovanni and Andrea Gabrieli . He also recorded compositions by Marco Antonio Cavazzoni , Jacques Buus , Giovanni de Macque and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, among others . As a concert organist he performs all over Europe, the USA and Japan.

Tamminga gave master classes at the Accademia di Musica Italiana per Organo in Pistoia, at the Corso Internazionale di Musica Antica in Urbino, at the Conservatories of Parma, Mantua, Pesaro, Bergamo, Potenza, Matera, Krakow, Wroclaw, Utrecht and Rotterdam, on New England Conservatory in Boston and at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. In 2002 he was a lecturer at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem.
