Live at the Fillmore East 2-11-69 (sometimes Grateful Dead Fillmore East 2-11-69 ) is a live - double album of the band Grateful Dead .

history

The songs on the album were recorded on February 11, 1969 at the Fillmore East in New York City and released on October 28, 1997 with their own label Grateful Dead Records . On the same day, the album Dick's Picks Volume 9 was released.

The concert was given during a tour that included the album Live / Dead (1970). On that day they performed together with Janis Joplin , who however gave her own concert that evening. The first set of this show was released on the first CD and the second part on the second CD. Janis Joplin made her debut as a solo artist with this concert.

In terms of time, the album was recorded between Anthem of the Sun and Aoxomoxoa . The Other One , Cryptical Envelopment and Caution (Do Not Stop on Tracks) were used by Anthem of the Sun , and St. Stephen , Dupree's Diamond Blues , Doin 'That Rag , Mountains of the Moon and Cosmic Charlie by Aoxomoxoa . At this point in time, Aoxomoxoa was already in the recording phase, which took 8 months due to the development of the 16-track recorder .

Both sets feature long medleys consisting of Cryptical Envelopment / The Other One / Cryptical Envelopment in the first set and Dark Star / St. Stephen / The Eleven played in the second set. In addition, Ron McKernan had a dominant role in the first three-song set.

criticism

The concert (and thus also the album) received good reviews, which was also due to the fact that two of the then dominant performers appeared with Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. From All Music Guide was Live at the Fillmore East 2-11-69 4 and The Music Box 4.5 of 5 stars rated.
