Lixa do Alvão is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Vila Pouca de Aguiar . It has 424 residents (as of June 30, 2011).

history

A number of mamaas and dolmens are evidence of prehistoric settlement, in particular the Mamoa do Alto do Catorino .

The place has always remained a small settlement of small farmers in its history.

The independent municipality of Lixa do Alvão was only created in 2003 by outsourcing it from the municipality of Soutelo de Aguiar .

As part of the municipal reform in 2013 , it was merged with the municipalities Afonsim , Gouvães da Serra and Santa Marta da Montanha to form the new municipality Alvão .
