History and sights

Finds prove a prehistoric settlement. Today's community was probably formed during the resettlement after the Reconquista . The current parish church was built in the 18th century on the basis of and using a first medieval church. From the original church, you can see some parts built into the present sacristy.

The single-aisled, late Baroque Igreja Paroquial de Afonsim ( also Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção , after its patron saint : Church of Our Lady of the Assumption) is the most important of the three protected monuments of the community.

The other listed buildings are two chapels. In addition, there are a number of Stone Age archaeological sites in the community, in addition to rock paintings and remains of settlements, above all a number of megalithic systems . In addition, three stone fountains in the municipality are worth seeing.
