Alvão is a Portuguese municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) Vila Pouca de Aguiar in northern Portugal .

history

The municipality was created in the course of the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 by merging the former municipalities Afonsim , Gouvães da Serra , Lixa do Alvão and Santa Marta da Montanha .

Alvão became the seat of the new administration.
