Bornes de Aguiar is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Vila Pouca de Aguiar . It has 2057 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
history
Dolmens are evidence of the settlement up to prehistoric times. The Romans who settled here also left their mark, especially the water supply systems for their various ore mines in the region. The current place was first mentioned in 1220. Bornes belonged to the district of Aguiar da Pena until it was incorporated into the newly founded district of Vila Pouca de Aguiar at the beginning of the 19th century. As an independent municipality, however, it has remained unchanged over the centuries.
Culture and sights
You can visit excavations of the Roman water supply system that served the ancient mines of Trêsminas , in particular a water tunnel and two reservoirs. Other architectural monuments of the municipality are historical public buildings, including the train station, and sacred buildings , in addition to various chapels, the Romanesque parish church Igreja Paroquial de Bornes de Aguiar (also Igreja de São Martinho ) from the 14th century. a. Mannerist and Baroque altarpieces made of gilded wood ( Talha dourada ) shows.
Pedras Salgadas is the most important place in the municipality and is known nationwide for its thermal baths . The mineral water of the same name bottled here is sold nationally and internationally.
