Lyudmila Nikolayevna Petrova

Lyudmila Nikolajewna Petrowa ( Russian Людмила Николаевна Петрова , English transcription Lyudmila Petrova , born October 7, 1968 ) is a Russian long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon .

In 1998 she set a Russian record in the 15 km road race with 48:31 , which is still there. In the same year she finished fourth in the New York City Marathon , in 2000 she won it.

At the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, she was sixth in the 10,000-meter run , the following year she was third in the London Marathon in 2:22:33.

In 2003 she finished fifth in London and fourth in New York City. She finished eighth in the 2004 Summer Olympics marathon in Athens, after finishing second in the London Marathon earlier this year.

After finishing fifth in London in 2005 and sixth in New York City, she set a Russian record in 2006 in London as second with 2:21:29. Galina Bogomolova broke it later that year in the Chicago Marathon , in which Petrowa finished eighth.

In 2008 Petrowa finished fifth in the London Marathon in 2:26:45. On November 2, 2008, at the age of 40, she finished second in the New York City Marathon behind the British Paula Radcliffe and ahead of the American Kara Goucher . With her running time of 2:25:43 she exceeded the world best time for women over 40, which had previously been set by Priscilla Welch in 1987, by more than a minute.

Lyudmila Petrowa is 1.59 m tall and has a competition weight of 43 kg.
