Lochore is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located about eight kilometers northwest of Kirkcaldy and eleven kilometers northeast of Dunfermline . The villages of Ballingry and Crosshill are seamlessly connected to the north and south . A few hundred meters south-east is the lake Loch Ore , from which the Ore flows.

history

Historically was Lochore in the district Lochoreshire province Fothriff . At the outlet of the Ore are the ruins of Lochore Castle, believed to be from the 13th century . Later, the village was built west the meantime broken mansion Lochore House .

The village grew as a mining settlement of Mary Colliery on the northeast bank of Loch Ore . The site of the former coal mine has since been renatured and is part of the 486 hectare Lochore Meadows Country Park nature reserve .

Between 1951 and 1991 the population of Lochore fell from 3223 to 1730. In the course of the 2011 census survey, Lochore was recorded together with Ballingry and Crosshill. The population was 5655.
