Vlasta Parkanová

Vlasta Parkanová (born November 21, 1951 in Prague ) is a Czech politician .

Life

Vlasta Parkanová studied at the Faculty of Law at Charles University in Prague, where she qualified as JUDr. PhD. After the political change in 1989, she co-founded the Občanské fórum in Tábor . Since 1990 she has been a member of the Czechoslovak and then the Czech parliament several times, from 1991 to 1998 a member of the ODA . She also worked as a department head in the Czech Ministry of the Interior.

As the successor to Jan Kalvoda , Parkanová was Minister of Justice of the Czech Republic from 1997 to 1998 in the Klaus and Tošovský governments .

From 2001 to 2009 she was a member of the KDU-ČSL and from 2007 to May 2009 she was the Czech Defense Minister in the Topolánek government . Parkanová left the KDU-ČSL in June 2009 and joined the TOP 09 party initiated by the former Finance Minister Kalousek . After the 2010 parliamentary elections, she became Vice President of Parliament.
