Jiří Šedivý (2010)

Jiří Šedivý (* 20th August 1963 in Prague ) is a Czech politician and diplomat. He is Secretary General of the European Defense Agency .

Life

His father is the politician and ambassador Jaroslav Šedivý .

After Jiří Šedivý worked as a worker and self-employed musician in the 1980s, he studied political science and English at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague and war sociology at King's College London from 1990 . From 1998 to 2004 he was director of the Institute for International Relations ( Ústav mezinárodních vztahů ) in Prague. He then taught at the European Center for Security Studies George C. Marshall in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

From September 4, 2006 to January 9, 2007, Šedivý was the independent Minister of Defense in the Mirek Topolánek I government . From 2007 to 2010 he was NATO Deputy Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning. On September 1st, 2012 he was appointed permanent representative of the Czech Republic to NATO. He held this office until August 2019.

In May 2020, Jiří Šedivý became Secretary General of the European Defense Agency.
