etymology
Old High German wâg , wâc with the meaning "water, flood, lake". Middle High German wâc means "moving, surging water, river, flood, stream, current, wave, sea, lake, pond". In southern Hesse the word usually appears with the stem vowel dulled to / o / as Woog . As a rule, names as simplex are fish ponds or reservoirs. The name Woogsberg probably refers to the forerunner of today's Steinbrücker pond .
