Aroz perforated stone

The perforated stone by Aroz ( French: Pierre percée d'Aroz ), which has been classified as a Monument historique since 1921, is a monolith with a soul hole . He stands in a field near the town of Aroz , west of Vesoul , in Haute-Saône in the region of Franche-Comté in France .

description

The stone is about 2.0 m wide and 1.7 m high and has an average thickness of 35 cm. The slab originally used as an entrance is the remainder of a Neolithic gallery grave of the Schwörstadt type . This type of dolmen, of which only the megaliths with the soul hole are often preserved today, is characteristic of the region, which extends over parts of southeast France, western Switzerland and the south of Baden-Württemberg .

The Pierre percée de Traves is just 1.3 kilometers away.

Individual evidence

  1. The French Designation, which was also chosen as a lemma, does not differentiate between perforated stones and stones with soul holes ( French Dalle hublot ). It should actually be called a soul hole stone to make it clear that it is not a self-sufficient object, but the rest of a formerly more complex structure
