The container terminal is on the main BNSF route between Los Angeles and Chicago . It extends between Edgerton and Gardner for three kilometers parallel to the Emporia Subdivision . It has eight parallel loading tracks with a length of 2.4 kilometers and two sidings. Eight large rail-bound gantry cranes are used here to move the freight containers between the more than 4,000 storage areas, the container chassis or the container wagons. Five loading tracks run between the rails of the gantry cranes and three outside on the north side, while the container storage areas are on the south side. For the transport of ISO containers out of the reach of gantry cranes since 2019 also come fully automatic straddle carrier (straddle carrier) by the Finnish manufacturer Kalmar used. The 180 hectare facility is in operation around the clock and employs 200 people.

The BNSF container terminal is the main part of the 690 hectare Logistics Park Kansas City , a warehouse and goods handling center used by Amazon , United Parcel Service and Spectrum Brands , among others .
