The Lohme is an approximately 5.5 kilometers long tributary of the Ilm on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest between Langewiesen and Gehren, east of Ilmenau .

course

The Lohme rises east of the 774 meter high Kienberg near Oehrenstock in the Sachsenpfütze , part of the deserted village of Sachsendorf . Its valley extends in an easterly direction; on the upper reaches are some ponds and the former Kranichsruh restaurant . To the north of the valley lies the 588 meter high Große Tragberg and to the south the 689 meter high Hexenstein. In the middle part of the Lohmetal, the high-speed line Nuremberg – Erfurt crosses the river with the Lohmetalbrücke . A little east of this bridge opens the valley of the Lohme, here it emerges from the Thuringian Forest. Your valley basin is crossed by the federal highway 88 and the former Ilmenau – Großbreitenbach railway line. Below the Lohme feeds numerous smaller ponds that belong to the nature reserve Pennewitzer Teiche and Unteres Wohlrosetal . Here the direction of flow changes from east to north and thus bypasses the city of Gehren. In the lower Lohmetal there are again some ponds before it flows into the Ilm from the right near the Langewiesener sewage treatment plant at the Pappmühle . The mouth height is 431 meters.
