history

On January 1, 1886, the stock corporation of Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) was granted a new license . a. guaranteed the company the right to operate the railways that had been built or acquired and used for public transport.

With a document dated March 19, 1888, the corporation of Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn was granted several concessions for the construction and operation of standard-gauge local railways, the first for the route from Drösing to Zistersdorf .

On October 1, 1889, rail traffic between Drösing and Zistersdorf was started (11.306 km). In 1906 the KFNB was nationalized, and from 1907 the kk Österreichische Staatsbahnen took over the operation.

The wave of decommissioning passed the Drösing – Zisterndorf local railway. After the old railcars ÖBB 5044 were used for some time , the railcars ÖBB 5047 took over the traffic. Railway operations were extended in 1988 to the Zistersdorf Stadt stop on the Bad Pirawarth – Dobermannsdorf railway line .

Local passenger transport ended on June 9, 2001, since then only ÖBB (or RCA) freight trains have been running to Zistersdorf, eleven kilometers away from Drösing. In 2009, the superstructure of the railway line was largely renewed in order to achieve route class D4 for the transport of the Zistersdorf waste incineration plant .

In 2009 the Austrian Post issued a special postage stamp as part of the railway series.
