Lola Rebeca Aniyar Sananes de Castro , also known as Lolita Aniyar de Castro or Lola Aniyar de Castro , (born May 8, 1937 in Caracas , † December 7, 2015 in Maracaibo ) was a Venezuelan lawyer , professor and politician .

Life

After successfully completing her law degree in Caracas, Lola Aniyar de Castro completed postgraduate studies in Paris and Rome in the fields of criminal law and criminology .

She worked as a professor at the Institute of Criminology at the Universidad del Zulia ( Instituto de Criminología de la Universidad del Zulia ) in Maracaibo and was director of the institute for more than 15 years. The institute now bears her name.

From 1993 to 1995 she was governor of the state of Zulia and the first Venezuelan woman to hold the office of senator in the Congreso Nacional. Lola Aniyar was a Venezuelan delegate to UNESCO and the Venezuela Consulate in New Orleans , in the United States, for several years . She was a member of the committee of Stockholm University which awards the international price for criminology (roughly equivalent to the Nobel price for criminology).

She lived in Maracaibo and was active at various universities. For example, she has taught at the University of Zulia, the University of the Andes, and other universities in Argentina, Costa Rica and Brazil. She has written numerous books on criminal law and justice in Venezuela. She was also the founder and editor of the magazine Revista Capitulo Criminológico , the oldest magazine with regular publication of data on criminal law in Latin America.

On September 22, 2008, Lola Aniyar de Castro received an honorary doctorate from the National University of Córdoba , Argentina.

Lolita Aniyar de Castro died of a heart attack on December 7, 2015 at the age of 78 in her home in Maracaibo.
