The Londa GmbH is a hair care company based in Leipzig in possession of Coty Inc.
The beginnings of the company go back to the company founded in 1880 by the hairdresser Franz Ströher, who was born in Oberwiesenthal in the Ore Mountains and was then 26 years old. He had developed some innovative hair care products and marketed them very successfully before. Franz Ströher AG, headquartered in Leipzig, emerged from his hair care company. Londa was one of the most important hair care brands in Europe even before the Second World War. Franz Ströher AG and the associated Londa GmbH were expropriated by the Soviet occupying forces in 1945. VEB Londa was founded in 1948 . In 1956 the brand was re-established on the European market. Franz Ströher AG, which was re-established in West Germany, now sold its products under the brand name Wella and rebuilt the business under the name Wella in West Germany. Londa used the old Londa logo until 1959. This was also used by Wella and is still in use today. "L'onda" is the Italian translation of "the wave". In 1976 Londa was integrated into VEB Florena as a part of the business . This is why the Londa products produced from then on bear the "Florena LONDA" logo.
In 1990 Londa became independent again and in July of that year it was reintegrated into the Wella Association as Londa GmbH. After the takeover of Wella AG by Procter & Gamble in 2003, Londa was now part of the international P&G group. In 2015 he sold the brands Wella and Londa to the Coty Group, which is majority owned by the Reimann family .
In the countries of the former Eastern Bloc, Londa is still a well-known hair care brand today.
