Transmission of the Great Perfection

Longchenpa was ordained in Samye in 1319 . He was a student of the Dzogchen master Lama Kumaraja , who, looking for no permanent residence , traveled with his students through Tibet , often under the harshest conditions . Lama Kumaraja recognized early on that Longchenpa would be his most important disciple and gave him the Dzogchen teachings of the "Heart Essence of Vimalamitra " (Vima Nyingthik). Guru Rinpoche gave Longchenpa Dzogchen teachings of the "Heart Essence of the Dakinis " (Khandro Nyingthik). Dzogchen refers to the highest teachings that lead directly to the experience of enlightenment, which are taught especially in the Nyingma school. Longchenpa was also a student and teacher of various masters of the traditions of the "New Translations" ( Sarma ). He imparted the Dzogchen teachings of "Vima-Nyingthik" to the 3rd Karmapa Rangjung Dorje and in return received the transmission of various Tantras of the New Traditions from him.

Works and work

Longchen Rabjam's scholarship related to all areas of Sutra and Tantra , in particular he is known for his writings on the teachings of Dzogchen, the "Great Perfection". His best known writings are the " Seven Treasures " (Dzö thin; Tib .: klong chen mdzod bdun ), the three "Cycles of Relaxation" (Ngalso Korsum; Tib .: ngal gso skor gsum ), the three "Cycles of natural liberation" (Rangdröl Korsum; Tib .: rang grol skor gsum ) and the texts on the "Four Branches of Heart Essence" (Nyingtik Yabshi; Tib .: snying thig ya bzhi ). Centuries later, the Nyingma master Jigme Lingpa (1729–1798), inspired by Longchenpa, combined the different branches of the Nyingma Dzogchen transmission into a unified teaching system, which has since been called Longchen Nyingthik ("Heart Essence of the Wide Dimension") in an uninterrupted manner Line is carried over to the present day.

Longchenpa is a Nyingma master and the founder of the tradition of the undogmatic Tibetan Vajrayana . He summarized the many techniques of the founding father of the Nyingmas Padmasambhava in one teaching.

Longchenpa first lived as a free yogi until he reached enlightenment . Then he worked as a spiritual master and established the teaching of the three great pleasures . It is good to live as a yogi and to attain enlightenment quickly. It is good to be an enlightened master because then you can help many people spiritually. And it is good to die enlightened, because then one lives on forever in light ( nirvana ).
