Loppenhausen is a village in the municipality of Breitenbrunn in the Swabian district of Unterallgäu with around 600 inhabitants.

geography

The village is located in Central Swabia , 10 kilometers south of Krumbach and 17 kilometers north of Mindelheim . The river Kammel flows through the village . To the east is the Boschhorn hill, on the top of which there is an artfully forged cross. Every year on the Assumption of Mary , a Catholic service is celebrated on the Boschhorn, the so-called mountain mass.

history

At the end of the Second World War , on January 15, 1945, the place narrowly escaped a catastrophe. Due to the fog, a US bomber group had an orientation error; Instead of being dropped onto the tracks at Augsburg Central Station , the bomb load was dropped immediately north of the village - 86 bombs were counted from the western edge of the forest across the Kammeltal to the eastern valley of the Hasberg land border . Nobody was injured or killed. On May 1, 1978, as part of the municipal reform, the previously independent Loppenhausen with the districts of Oberberghöfe and Unterberghöfe was incorporated into the municipality of Breitenbrunn.
