The route begins at Ziegelhütte between Steinbach am Wald and Lauenhain, leads via Ludwigsstadt , Probstzella , Unterloquitz to Kaulsdorf and overcomes an altitude difference of around 457 meters. The Ludwigsstädter Slate Museum, located on the Loquitz Cycle Path, includes an exhibition on slate mining . The Mantelburg towers over Lauenstein and can be visited in regular guided tours.

Coffee and chocolates are sold in the “Fischbachmühle” along the way . The Loquitz Cycle Path crosses the former Iron Curtain at Villa Falkenstein , which formerly stood exactly on the border between the GDR and the FRG . A memorial stone and a border tower, also designed as a museum, on the Hopfberg commemorate the inner-German border and its opening in 1989.

In the Probstzella train station (today RE and RB stops), visitors can visit the new GDR border station museum on Sundays and by appointment in the historic reception building from 1885 . Thuringia's largest Bauhaus monument, the House of the People in Probstzella includes a hotel and a restaurant . The federal exhibition on the Green Belt can also be found in the House of the People .

There is an outdoor swimming pool in Marktgölitz not far from the route in Gölitztal .

The Loquitz cycle path continues through the mountain and meadow landscapes of the Loquitz Valley and ends after around 30 km in Kaulsdorf (Saale) near the mouth of the Loquitz into the Saale.
