Lorenzo is an American animated short film directed by Mike Gabriel in 2004.

action

Lorenzo is a spoiled, fat cat who lives in luxury. One day he sees the black cat Malo, who has no tail. He makes fun of Malo and shows off his own cock. He irritates Malo until she casts a spell on Lorenzo's tail. The tail now leads a life of its own and Lorenzo tries in vain to "kill" it. But electric shocks do not calm him down and an attempt to let a train roll over his tail fails. Occasionally Malo appears with a knife that she shows Lorenzo, but he always flees from the cat. In the end, however, Lorenzo sees no other way out: he goes mad and cuts his tail off in his desperation. At the end, Lorenzo, Malo and Lorenzo's tail bow to the audience.

production

The first work on Lorenzo dates from the early 1940s. Joe Grant had developed the plot about the cat Lorenzo and made the first pencil sketches. Producers Roy E. Disney and Don Hahn revived Lorenzo's idea . They offered the material to director Mike Gabriel in 2001, who had not previously made an animated film. He used Grant's templates as a slide and expanded the plot. Large parts of the film are computer-animated using the new Sable program . The plot is accompanied by the Tango Bordoneo y 900 , which was recorded in a new version by Juan Jose Mosalini and his Big Tango Orchestra.

Lorenzo first screened on March 6, 2004 at the Florida Film Festival and later came to cinemas as a supporting film for Liebe in a roundabout way . The European premiere of the film was on June 7, 2004 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy .

Awards

Lorenzo was nominated in 2005 for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Ryan . At the Festival d'Animation Annecy, Lorenzo won the Cristal d'Annecy in 2004 and received an Annie Award for “Best Animated Short Film” in 2005 .
