Lorenzo Antonio Félix Fernández Larrobla (born November 20, 1792 in Montevideo , † September 30, 1852 ibid) was a Uruguayan Roman Catholic clergyman . He was Vicar Apostolic of Montevideo in Uruguay and founding rector of the Universidad de la República.

Life

Lorenzo Antonio Fernández, nephew of the Catholic priest, politician and Uruguayan national hero Juan Francisco Larrobla , was ordained a priest on August 10, 1817 in Salta in northwest Argentina . In 1825 he followed his uncle to his pastor in Canelones . From 1828 to 1830 he was a member of the constituent and legislative assembly of Uruguay to draw up a constitution. In 1838 he became rector of the Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís in Montevideo.

In 1841 he became the deputy of Dámaso Antonio Larrañaga , Catholic clergyman and renowned scientist. After his death in 1848 he was taken over by Pope Pius IX. Appointed Vicar Apostolic of Montevideo.

With the establishment of the Universidad de la República on July 18, 1849 by President Joaquín Suárez , he was appointed founding rector of the university.
