Lorenzo I. De Leon Guerrero

Lorenzo I. De Leon Guerrero (born January 25, 1935 on Saipan , †  October 6, 2006 there ) was an American politician . Between 1990 and 1994 he was governor of the Northern Mariana Islands .

Career

Nothing is known about Lorenzo Guerrero's youth and schooling. Between 1973 and 1976 he was Vice President of Saipan Shipping Co. From 1978 to 1989 he worked for the Philippine, Micronesia and the Orient Navigation Co. From 1980 to 1989 he was also the owner and manager of the Commonwealth Maritime Agency in Saipan. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1972 and 1980 he sat in the Senate of the Northern Mariana Islands . From 1980 to 1982 he was Senate President under a new constitution. In 1976 he was also a delegate and also President of the Constitutional Convention in his home country. From 1983 to 1985 he served as the leader of the Republican Party in his territory.

In 1989, Guerrero was elected the new governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. On January 8, 1990, he succeeded Pedro Tenorio . He held this office until January 10, 1994. In 1997, he unsuccessfully applied to return to the office of governor. Guerrero died on October 6, 2006 on Saipan. He was married and had ten children.
