Los Colorados ( Ukrainian : Лос Колорадос, comes from the Ukrainian translation of the Colorado beetle ) is a Ukrainian band, founded in 2006 in Ternopil . The band plays their own songs, but has become better known through cover versions of popular folk and pop songs. They achieved international fame with a polka- style cover of Katy Perry's "Hot'n'Cold", which was recorded in a regional television studio in Ternopil, home town and which spread widely on YouTube .

history

The band was founded in 2006 in Ternopil and initially only played their own songs in Ukrainian. Fame grew when they were invited to a regional TV station, where they performed their pieces live. Among other things, they also played a cover version of the famous track "Hot'n'Cold" by Katy Perry . The singer Ruslan "Prystupnic" Prystupa could not speak English at the time, so he learned the lyrics of the song by transcribing it into Ukrainian.

The band peaked in popularity when "Hot'n'Cold" was featured on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. The video, which was posted on YouTube, achieved almost five million clicks in a very short time and was generally very well received due to the funny and popular interpretation. Katy Perry herself described the version on her blog as "inspiring".

Germany

As part of the European Football Championship 2012 , Los Colorados provided the official ZDF football hit. It is a cover version of the well-known track "I Like to Move It" by Reel 2 Real , which was released in May 2012 as a single.

In June 2012 they presented an album with this and other cover versions. The cover of Rammsteins du hast became a great success on social networks and managed to surpass the hot and cold cover (with over five million clicks on YouTube at the beginning of 2019).
