Los Fresnos is a city in Cameron County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located at the junction of Highway 100 and Farm Road 1847 in the extreme southeast of Texas, is in the south about 20 km from the border with Mexico and the Rio Grande , in the east about 32 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has a total area of 6.5 km², of which 0.2 km² is water.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 4,512 people in 1,296 households and 1,092 families lived here. The population density was 722.9 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 81.96% White, 0.42% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.02% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, and 14.38% other ethnic groups. About 2.99% were of mixed race and 84.62% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,296 households, 53.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.7% of them were married couples living together. 17.7% were single mothers and 15.7% were non-families. 14.2% of all households were single households and 7.7% had people living there who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.48 and the average family size was 3.86 people.
36.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.2% 18 to 24, 29.2% 25 to 44, 17.1% 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 93.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 84.6 men.
The median income for a household in the 25,793 USD , and the median income for a family 27,670 USD. Males had a median income of $ 20,459 versus $ 17,904 for females. The per capita income was $ 9,507. 34.2% of the population and 28.5% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 43.8% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 22.4% were 65 or older.
