Los Toldos is a place in the department of Santa Victoria in the extreme northwest of the province of Salta in Argentina , about 15 km south of the border with Bolivia. Los Toldos is the administrative seat of the municipality of the same name Los Toldos. In 2001 the place had about 750 inhabitants. Los Toldos has a hospital , internet cafes and a cellular network.

The place lives from goat and sheep breeding, from the cultivation of corn and beans as well as from tourism by visitors to the nature reserve Nogalar de Los Toldos and the nearby National Park Baritú .

For a long time Los Toldos could only be reached from other regions of Argentina by land vehicle via the neighboring country Bolivia. There is now a way to reach Los Toldos with all-terrain vehicles within Argentina: On July 9, 2020, the extension of the Ruta Provincial 7 road between Santa Victoria and Los Toldos was completed.

Access via Bolivia

From the city of Orán, 180 km away , the route leads over the Ruta Nacional 50 to Aguas Blancas ; from there to the Bolivian city of Bermejo and then on Route 1 to La Mamora ; then back to Argentine territory on Ruta Nacional 19 via El Condado to Los Toldos.

A minibus runs twice a week between Los Toldos and Orán (Mondays and Thursdays at 3 p.m.).

climate

The climate is subtropical to tropical with annual rainfall of around 2000 mm. The average temperature in summer is 24 ° C, with a maximum of around 30 ° C. In winter, temperatures drop to an average of 14 ° C. In the higher elevations, snow falls in winter.
