Lost (T) apes is the sixth album by the German rock band Guano Apes . It is also available as a double CD with the tracks from Planet of the Apes as The Best & The Lost Tapes . You can hear songs from the early days of the Guano Apes from 1994 and 1995. In Germany, the album reached number 75 in the album charts. The album title is ambiguous, as it translates to mean lost recordings (which it also includes), but the T in the word Tapes is placed in brackets in the original title, so that the other letters Apes again allude to the name of the group.
background
The album was conceived as a kind of farewell gift for the fans with demo recordings from the band's early days. So contains Lost (T) apes the bumpy sounding approaches the later hit " Open Your Eyes " and original versions of other popular songs, as well as unknown and previously unreleased songs. The demo recordings originally made in a youth center were reworked for the publication of Lost (T) apes , but do not achieve the quality of studio recordings. Some of the well-known songs of the band have different names or different textual content than the later published versions. The title Wasserfliege was not released on a phonogram until Lost (T) apes , but it was played as an opener in live performances for some time.
Lost (T) apes was also released unchanged on the same release day as a double CD together with the titles of Planet of the Apes under the title The Best and the Lost (T) Apes .

reception
Since these are the band's first recordings, they sound “pretty grumpy from time to time”, as Alexander Cordas from laut.de notes. Furthermore, the sound was partly "messed up" with artificial and inharmonious sounding breaks and tempo changes. Cordas describes the recordings as remarkable, because at the time there was probably no financial means available to make decent recordings. Nicolas Freund from metalnews.de is of the opinion that Lost (T) apes is suitable for hardcore fans or nostalgics, but that everyone else should listen to the regular studio albums, as the unreleased recordings would on average not achieve album quality. Furthermore, it is still interesting because the development of the individual songs can be observed.
