Lothar Engelbert Schücking (born April 30, 1873 in Wollin ; † February 2, 1943 in Sassenberg ) was a German lawyer , writer , politician , pacifist and local researcher.

family

The Schückings are an old bourgeois patrician family based in the Münsterland, originally from Coesfeld, who have produced many outstanding personalities over the centuries. Schücking was the eldest child of Lothar Carl Levin Schücking and his wife Luise Wilhelmine Amalie nee. Beitzke (1849–1920) and thus a grandson of Levin Schücking on his father's side . He was the brother of the politician and international lawyer Walther Schücking (1875-1935) and the English language professor and Shakespeare researcher Levin Ludwig Schücking (1878-1964).

One year after Schücking's birth, the family moved from Wollin to Burgsteinfurt and later to Münster. In Münster, Schücking attended the Paulinum grammar school , where he graduated from high school in 1892.

He married Eva Bachmann (* 1880, † 1966) from Osnabrück on October 26, 1906 in Osnabrück, the daughter of the lawyer Julius Bachmann . The two children sprang from this marriage

  • Julius Lothar (born August 1, 1904 in Osnabrück, Dr. phil., Journalist and critic, later editor, missing in Russia since 1945)
  • Eva (born May 5, 1908 in Husum; † January 3, 1971; teacher).

The marriage was divorced on February 6, 1912. Schücking's second wife was Ellen Louise Hudoffsky (* 1894; † 1969) in Altona on April 7, 1919. The three other children sprang from this marriage

  • Sybille Katharina Schücking-Helfferich (veterinarian, born June 15, 1921 in Dortmund, † October 24, 2000 in Warendorf, 4 children)

Life

Schücking, he was Mayor of Husum , published with the bracketed words "Mayor XY Z." In 1908 the sensational pamphlet The reaction in the internal administration of Prussia . The font was published by the publisher of the journal “Die Hilfe” published by Friedrich Naumann ; The book designer was Adolf Amberg . Thereupon the Prussian Interior Minister Friedrich von Moltke initiated disciplinary proceedings, which he hoped to get Schücking removed from office. Schücking, who had already resigned his mayor's office in January 1909, was sentenced to a fine for serious breach of duty. In a subsequent appeal, the Prussian Higher Administrative Court sentenced him in September 1909 for breach of duty of loyalty; his pension entitlement and title were revoked.
