Lothar Hentschel

Lothar Hentschel (born February 19, 1930 in Gelsenkirchen , † January 18, 1999 in Marl ) was a German politician and member of the state parliament ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school , he completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft electrical mechanic by 1945. After the end of the Second World War, this training could not be continued, so that he completed an apprenticeship as an electrician until 1949.

From 1945 Hentschel was a member of the socialist youth workers " Die Falken " and the union IG Metall and later the union of public services, transport and traffic . In 1947 Hentschel became a member of the SPD and in 1954 a full-time youth secretary in the SPD's Western Westphalia district. This was followed by other full-time activities as managing director of the SPD sub-district Recklinghausen, as district manager and since 1973 as regional manager of the SPD.

From May 28, 1975 to May 30, 1990, Hentschel was a member of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was directly elected in the constituencies 094 Recklinghausen-Land II and 082 Recklinghausen II.

He was a member of the City Council of Marl from 1979 to 1996. He was mayor of the city for 11 years, from 1984 to 1995 . From 1965 to 1970 and from 1972 to 1975 Hentschel was a member of the district council of the Recklinghausen district . He also served from 1965 to 1970 a member of the Regional Assembly of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe .

Others

Hentschel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. In Marl, Lothar-Hentschel-Strasse was named after him. The Lothar-Hentschel-Haus in Marl is a senior meeting place of the workers welfare . For his services to the town twinning he was given honorary citizenship of the town of Bitterfeld .
