Lothar Issler

Lothar Issler (born July 28, 1943 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German mechanical engineer and university professor .

Life

Issler studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart from 1962 to 1968 . Then he was a scientific assistant at the chair for materials science, strength theory and materials testing at the University of Stuttgart until 1974 . There he received his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. with the work strength behavior of metallic materials under phase-shifted vibration stress .

From 1977 Issler was active as a consultant for the German Society for Technical Cooperation for development aid projects, mainly for projects in India and South Africa . In 1981 he went to the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences , where he took over the professorship for strength, materials and joining technology in the vehicle technology department. Since 2001 he has also been the head of the Steinbeis Transfer Center for Component Strength and Safety, Material and Joining Technology .

In 2009 Issler received the August Wöhler Medal from the German Association for Materials Research and Testing .

Research priorities

His work areas include experimental and numerical stress analysis , research on fatigue strength , fracture mechanics and damage investigations .
