Early life and education

Loncke was born in Mouscron , Belgium into a family of furniture makers. He studied mechanical engineering at ECAM in Brussels, received a master's degree in industrial management from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and also studied treasury management at the University of Antwerp Management School.

Career

Business advisor

Loncke began his career as a logistics manager. Since 1999 he has gained experience in over 10 companies in various positions. As a management consultant, he has mainly worked in the IT industry since 2007. The skills he has acquired in the demanding corporate world enable him to plan his expeditions efficiently. He learned photography, SEO, marketing and communication on his own. He has been a volunteer at the NGO Art in All of Us since 2006 and was elected to the Supervisory Board in 2010.

Adventurer and explorer

Loncke began traveling alone in 2000. In 2002 he was sent to Singapore as part of his job, where he learned to dive. To fulfill this growing passion, he traveled to Oceania for a year between 2004 and 2005. It was there that he also began hiking and hearing stories of adventurers and explorers that sparked his interest, which has grown through the film Alone across Australia . Back in Belgium, he met the author and adventurer Sylvain Tesson , who encouraged him to pursue his passion. In 2006 he returned to Australia to start his first three expeditions.

His first solitary crossing of the Tasmanian wilderness was undoubtedly the epic of all three and helped to gain him recognition among Australian explorers and sponsors alike. After a year in Australia, he went back to Belgium, where he planned his next expeditions. The first was to be the long-distance transit of the Simpson Desert .

He organized charity expeditions with media coverage, including the highest chocolate tasting in the world on Mount Everest. In July 2010 it moved from north to south through Iceland between its most extreme latitudes. He parodied an Icelandic commercial that went viral on the internet in Iceland. Louis-Philippe Loncke announced that he would be returning to Iceland one winter to repeat the trip under more difficult weather conditions. His two expeditions, the crossing of Iceland and the Simson Desert, were involved in a scientific research of the MSH in Paris, on the topic of Stress and decision taking in extreme environment .
