Louis Brassin , Russian Луи Брассен (* 24. June 1840 in Aachen , † May 5. . Jul / 17th May  1884 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Belgian pianist , composer and music teacher.

Live and act

Louis Brassin, the son of the opera singer Louis Brassin (around 1811–1880), gave his first concert at the age of six in Hamburg. A year later his father had a job in Leipzig and Louis attended the conservatory there as a student of Ignaz Moscheles . The then eight-year-old gave a memorable concert in Stade in 1848 , where he performed together with his five-year-old brother Leopold, whom he had taught to play the piano himself. In 1857 he gave concerts for the first time in Belgium under the stage name Brassin . From 1866 he taught at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. After being appointed piano professor at the Brussels Conservatory , he settled in Belgium for ten years in 1869, where he played an important role in the country's musical life. In 1878 he took over the piano class from Theodor Leschetizky at the St. Petersburg Conservatory .

Brassin arranged numerous Richard Wagner pieces for piano and wrote many smaller piano pieces that have largely been forgotten today. Edgar Tinel and Wassili Sapelnikow are among his students .

His brothers Leopold Brassin (1843–1890) and the violinist Gerhard Brassin (1844 – after 1915) went on many concert tours together; they taught at the Stern Conservatory, but also in Bern. Both left mainly compositions for their instrument.
