Louis-Joseph Diémer (born February 14, 1843 in Paris , † December 21, 1919 there ) was a French pianist and composer .

Live and act

Louis Diémer studied piano with Antoine François Marmontel , composition with Ambroise Thomas and organ with François Benoist at the Paris Conservatory . Since 1888 he has taught at the Conservatoire himself. His students included Robert Casadesus , Alfred Cortot , Alfredo Casella , Yves Nat , Georges Dandelot , Marcel Dupré and Édouard Risler .

With his appearance at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889 , at which he performed pieces by French composers of the 17th and 18th centuries, he initiated the return of the harpsichord to the concert hall. In 1895 he was one of the co-founders of the Société des instruments anciens with Henri Casadesus and Édouard Nanny , where he played a two-manual harpsichord by Pleyel . He edited the Les Clavecinistes français collection .

But he also remained active as a “modern” pianist. In the premiere of the "Carnival of the Animals" on March 9, 1886, the composer of the work, Camille Saint-Saëns , and Louis Diémer played the two piano parts.

Diémer composed a piano concerto and numerous piano and chamber music works.
