Louis F. Bishop

Louis Faugères Bishop III (born April 20, 1901 in New York City , † June 1, 1986 in Manhattan ) was an American cardiologist , sports medicine specialist and co-founder of the American College of Sports Medicine .

Life

Bishop was the son of Louis Faugères Bishop II (1864-1941), the founder of American cardiology. After high school, son Bishop studied at Yale University (Bachelor in 1921) and Dr. med. (MD 1925) from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons . He had a well-functioning private practice, but also collaborated on research with Rutgers University , which honors him with the annual Annual Louis Faugères Bishop III Lecture after his death . He was elected president of the American College of Cardiology and the New York Cardiological Society , was a founding member and president of the American College of Sports Medicine . Like his family, he spoke French and traveled to Europe several times to find out about the latest developments in cardiology and sports medicine.
