Louis Lepic (born September 20, 1765 in Montpellier , † January 7, 1827 in Andrésy ) was a French Général de division of the cavalry .

Life

In 1781 Lepic volunteered for the dragoons of the royal army and made a career there very quickly. With the permission of the Assemblée nationale consttuante , King Louis XVI was named in autumn 1791 . a guard granted. In the autumn of the following year Lepic was able to join this Garde constitutionelle du Roi with the rank of lieutenant colonel .

When the king was executed in late 1793, Lepic was in command and under the orders of General Jean-Baptiste Kléber . Here he was used in the suppression of the uprising in the Vendée and the fighting against the army of the emigrants .

In 1796 Lepic took part in Napoleon's Italian campaign and fought a. a. in the battle of Montenotte (April 12, 1796), in the battle of Millesimo (April 13, 1796) and in the battle of Mondovi (April 20/22, 1796).

With his own command, Lepic took part in the fourth coalition war under the leadership of Maréchal Joachim Murat . He fought u. a. near Jena (October 14, 1806) and Preußisch Eylau (February 7/8, 1807).

Under Murat, Lepic also fought in Spain ; u. a. before Madrid (→ Dos de Mayo uprising ).

When Napoleon abdicated after the Battle of Paris (March 30, 1814), Lepic turned to the House of Bourbon . When Napoleon left the island of Elba and his rule of the Hundred Days began, Lepic defected again to the emperor. Under his leadership he fought in the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815). During the restoration , Lepic settled in Andrésy and died there on January 7, 1827 at the age of over 61. He found his final resting place on the Cimetière Montparnasse in Paris .
